Strong business is being reported at the just opened new casino/resort in upstate New York.
“The first days of operation at Rivers Casino & Resort Schenectady have been extremely successful, and we’re very pleased with feedback we’ve heard from our guests and the support shown by the community,” Charles Wiff, a Rivers Casino & Resort Schenectady spokesman, said in a prepared statement.
After the Wednesday grand opening crowds were hampered Thursday, when nearly a foot of snow blanketed the region. However, the casino drew large crowds again for the weekend.
Schenectady police spokesman Sgt. Matt Dearing told local media the department added two officers to its patrols for the weekend, starting at midnight Saturday, to assist drivers and ensure cars were parked legally. That compared to 10 additional officers brought on for opening day, he said.
Rivers Casino & Resort Schenectady is one of four new gambling venues authorized by New York State regulators following voter approval of an amendment to New York’s constitution allowing expanded gambling.
Rush Street Gaming, oversees the new casino facility along with a northwest suburban Chicago property in Des Plaines, as well as casino/resorts in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh.
