Connecticut has joined New Jersey and several other states that are now ready to offer legal sports betting, should the U.S. Supreme Court determine legalization is a “states rights” issue, reports legalsportsreport.com.

Gov. Dannel Malloy signed a bill into law this week with provisions that would quickly allow the state to initiate sports betting regulations.

The U.S. Supreme Court, in a surprise announcement last month, said it would hear arguments this fall regarding the New Jersey case. A ruling is expected sometime in 2018.

Malloy signed legislation this week as part of a larger gaming package that included authorization of a new casino in the state and additionally expands the number off off-track horse racing betting locations in the state.
