IGT’s “Creature from the Black Lagoon"

(November 17, 2009 7:02 AM) -

Slots of Luck by L. Sabin | IGT’s “Creature from the Black Lagoon

IGT’s Creature from the Black Lagoon is a nostalgic look back at Friday night’s black and white movie fright flicks at the drive-in. As teenagers we would pack as many souls as possible into one car to go watch one of the classic monster movies. And let’s not forget those trips to the snack bar to fill up on goodies. A hot dog is a hot dog but there was just something extra special about the hot dogs they served at the snack bar at the drive-in.

This game is based on the movie, "The Creature from the Black Lagoon," which featured Richard Carlson and Julie Adams in the 1955 thriller. Various silly scenes of horror from this time-honored monster movie are combined with teasing railleries that will thrill horror movie fans with much anticipation and apprehension as the video reels spin and the bonus rounds come into play. Creature from the Black Lagoon is a 5-reel, 15-line game with a 20x max bet.

Creature from the Black Lagoon has two bonuses.

The Claw bonus begins when three or more claw symbols line up left to right, the clawing gill monster creature reaches upward from the black lagoon and shreds the screen so as to reveal the winning credits from his dark, watery murky lair. No need for any 3-D special effects glasses, for the player feels that the creature is out to get you as you play the game.

The Snack Lagoon bonus triggers when four or five scattered snack symbols appear. Which leads us to the concession stand. The concession lady blowing her bubble gum rings up the register with the total credits from each of the snack symbols acquired during this bonus round play. We get to choose from burgers, corn dogs, sodas, shakes, popcorn and an assortment of candies. After we have picked out five treats she then proceeds to ring up our choices. If we’re lucky there may be a double pay lurking behind one of our choices and then we even receive a bonus treat!

If you’re a B-movie horror buff you will enjoy the movie monster animation and enhanced horror sounds as winning line credits accumulate. Quirky, silly comments accompany classic movie clips when three or more Creature symbols swim just above the screen’s watery surface. Probably, the creature itself is most terrific when he gets a grip on the unsuspecting Kay at the edge of the boat and when three or more of these symbols line up on the active payline from left to right, the slimy creature from the black eerie lagoon releases her and dives back into the mysterious deep, revealing screaming bonus credits and entertaining film clips.

This is a entertaining, fun game to play. I usually play 15 lines at 3x (45¢) line bet. It pays frequently and the bonus comes up often enough to keep you interested. I’ve never hit a really big pay on this game but I usually cash out ahead. And for me that’s what counts.
