Much like my NFL betting season, fantasy football has not been all that kind to me minus a few weeks.
It’s a tough game these days, dealing with so many miscues, replays and incompetent officiating. But at the end of the day it’s on me to deliver.
That said, if you thought DeVante Parker would be the No.1 fantasy player this week, I would ask to see your updated Grays Sports Almanac from Back to the Future 2. That way I could have Redskins’ Derrius Guice as my top running back as well.
With only a few weeks left in the NFL season we are going to approach things from a completely different angle. Players that are playing for must win teams.
But before we get to that portion of the column let’s check out the leaderboard for Week 13 at DraftKings: DeVante Parker, WR, Mia 37.9; Robert Woods, WR, LAR 33.2; Alshon Jeffery, WR, Phi 31.7; Ryan Fitzpatrick, QB, Mia 30.8; Derrius Guice, RB, WAS; Carson Wentz, QB, Phi 28.4; Aaron Rodgers, QB, GB 28.12; Jared Goff, QB, LAR 27.96; Derrick Henry, RB, Ten 27.6; Tyler Higbee, TE, LAR 26.7.
Nick Chubb, RB, CLE ($8,000): Thanks to the wild card looking like a train wreck in the AFC, the Browns are still on life support for the playoffs.
After a miserable performance against Pittsburgh, the Browns get their first crack at 1-11 Cincinnati. My thought here is two fold. One the Bengals would be stupid to jeopardize their draft order by winning any more games this season with LSU’s Joe Burrow likely the No.1 pick, Cincy needs a franchise QB. Second, the Bengals haven’t been able to stop the run much this season.
For Chubb, he’s been one of the most consistent players in fantasy and he has a great shot to have a career type day in a bounce back for the Browns.
Projection: 172 yards, 3TDs.
Diamond in the Rough
Tyrell Williams, WR, Oak ($5,000): Just as people started to believe in Oakland, they laid two eggs in a row. A total of 12 points against the Jets and Chiefs on the road.
Clearly the Raiders aren’t quite contenders yet, but now they are back home one of the final two Raider games ever in Oakland. I expect maximum effort from them with the playoffs still in reach.
Oakland is likely going to cool off the Titans and if so QB Derek Carr finds a way to get Williams back in the offense flow.
Projection: 124 yards, TD.
Top QB: David Blough, DET ($5,300): Again look elsewhere for salary savers than QB, but if you want to gamble and who doesn’t ride with Blough.
He had a short week to get ready for the Bears and played well 18.3 fantasy points against a better defense than the Vikings team he faces this week.
One reason to be weary the Vikings are usually a handful at home so proceed with caution.
Top RB: Alexander Mattison, MIN ($4,500): This guy is going to be no secret if Dalvin Cook does not play and honestly he will be in tons of lineups, but it’s hard not to like the production and points he is going to get for such a low salary. Just be aware he will be in tons of lineups.
Top WR: John Ross, CIN ($4,400): This is one of those maybe or maybe not but he’s too talented to not attempt if he suits up. He was activated off IR Tuesday and was on pace for a breakout season before getting hurt as has been his luck throughout his NFL career.
A former first round pick due to his blazing speed, if Ross is a full go for practices at the end of this week light him up.
