The Australian race mare Winx, the vision of equine perfection, badly missed the break Saturday at Royal Randwick but boldly thundered home to record her 18th consecutive victory.
Her victory margin was only a half neck in winning the Group 2 $250,000 (AU) Warwick Stakes in what many race goers now say is one of her greatest triumphs.
Winx poor break caused an initial four-length deficit behind the other runners, but jockey Hugh Bowman settled the great mare and she rumbled past her rivals from the turn to the finish line to boldly secure the win.
Winx is now six-years-old and has won 21 of 27 lifetime starts.
