The NBA’s Houston Rockets are expected to officially announce today (Oct. 10) that billionaire businessman Tilman J. Fertitta has officially closed on his purchase of the team as well as Clutch City Sports & Entertainment. Last week, the NBA Board of Governors unanimously approved Fertitta to join their ranks.
Fertitta said in a news release, “I could not be happier. To own the Rockets in my hometown of Houston is a dream come true. I promise to continue to make this city proud of the Rockets and to do what we can to bring home a championship.”
Fertitta, a prominent casino owner in several U.S. venues including Las Vegas, paid a record $2.2 billion dollars to former Rockets owner Leslie Alexander.
Clutch City Sports & Entertainment is also located in Houston and largely functions as an event and sports promoting business in addition to a stadium and arena operator.
Fertitta, 60, also owns and operates Landry’s Inc., one of the country’s largest restaurant chains.
