Woodbine 2018 season highlighted by 159th $1M Queen's Plate

Woodbine Entertainment has announced its stakes schedule for its 2018 thoroughbred racing season which includes 96 stakes highlighted by the 159th running of the $1 million Queen's Plate, the first jewel of the Canadian Triple Crown.
Woodbine action remains a popular pastime in simulcast outlets internationally, especially in the United States because of its full fields and competitive racing action.
Meet highlights include the prestigious Queen's Plate on Saturday, June 30 and the Breeders' Stakes, the third Canadian Triple Crown leg on Saturday, Aug. 18. The meet will also feature four Breeders' Cup ‘Win and You're In' stakes.
The 133-day race meet will offer a total of $67.6 million in purses, comparable with 2017 amounts, including $16.6 million allocated towards Woodbine's stakes program. Woodbine, in suburban Toronto, is home to one of the world’s finest grass courses and is headquarters for many top North American trainers including Mark Casse and many others. Casse has won nine Sovereign Awards for outstanding trainer in Canada and has been the leading trainer at Woodbine 12 times.
