Bingo halls, long a hotbed of socialization in the United Kingdom (UK), are under siege because elderly players are converting to online gambling from home.
A recent report in the UK found that one in five over-55s now regularly enjoys playing over the internet with 300,000 making the switch in the past year, according to The Sun newspaper.
Observers believe Bingo halls may be headed for extinction because seniors are preferring to use the on-line version, accounting for a recent 14 percent drop in bingo hall attendance. In the past decade, the number of bingo halls has nearly halved from almost 600 to 350, according the The Sun.
