It’s tax time! Did you get a rebate check this year? When I get mine I know just what to do -- head to a local casino, cash it and get a chance to spin a wheel and get a prize. That’s how we hedge our returns in Vegas.

My bet is on the Golden Knights for the Stanley Cup! I am feeling this with a passion. The odds are long but I trust my gut. Go Knights!

Back to entertainment (even though sports is entertainment)…

The Criss Angel show at Luxor, which I caught for the umpteenth time, has a new found twist. It includes some great comedic moments, unusual for a true magic show, and it works fabulously. He does two shows nightly Wednesday through Sunday at 7 and 9:30 p.m. You must see this amazing man.

While at Luxor I had dinner at their succulent steak house, Tender Steak & Seafood. It is the best! Steaks, seafood, wine, the works! It was a moment of pallet heaven. Check it out.

Texas Reuben

• Reuben Studdard graces the stage at the Texas Station this Friday, April 13. You are sure to enjoy the amazing voice of this Grammy nominated R&B, gospel and pop singer who was the winner of American Idol’s second season.

• Hilarious comedian Brad Williams will be at the Red Rock Resort on Friday and Saturday, April 20 and 21. Brad has been doing stand-up since the age of 19 and has perfected his craft to become a very in demand performer.

• Kiefer Sutherland (son of Donald Sutherland) is a respected actor, producer and director. But he is also a singer/songwriter and will be at the Red Rock on Saturday, April 28. This is his first time in Las Vegas and he will be singing songs from debut country album “Down in a Hole.”

• May 5 brings Creedence Clearwater Revisited to the Sunset Station. The band includes Creedence Clearwater Revival founding members and Rock and Roll Hall of Famers Stu cook and Dough “Cosmo” Clifford.

• And don’t forget, Junefest at Sunset Station’s outdoor amphitheater will be coming up sooner than you think. Rick Springfield will headline at this year’s annual event presented by KKLZ 96.3FM radio. The evening will be filled with dozens of hits from the past decades, bringing back those wonderful memories. Tickets for the June 9 event are on sale now at www.ticketmaster.com.

• The new Righteous Brothers – Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Bill Medley and his new partner Bucky Heard, wowed the audience at Harrah’s last week when we caught the show. They have not lost that loving feeling. They perform Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday each week now through May 24. Definitely put them on your list of shows to sea.

With all these local options, there are no parking fees! However, nothing beats a night on the Strip and Opium opened last weekend. WOW!

Arts!

Local theater has a very deep offering in the play “The Father,” part of the Cockroach Theater’s line-up at the Arts Square Theater in downtown through April 15. At ticket prices of $15-$25 this is a true Vegas bargain!

On Broadway, Frank Langella won a Tony for his portrayal of the title character. It is a drifting mind that envelops an 80-year-old Andre and he reverts to quoting Shakespeare in many of his isolated moments. It deals with dementia and is a great work that was brought to the stage here with the support of the Lou Ruvo Cleveland Clinic as sponsor.

At the cinema

“Acrimony,” the latest from Tyler Perry does not disappoint. Taraji P. Henson is gorgeous and an enigma on the woes and reactions of a wife who finds out her husband is cheating. I was glued to my seat!

“The Death of Stalin” is a moc-umentary on the 1953 death of the former Soviet leader who ruled with an iron fist, and the bumblings of his cronies who struggle to take power.

And from Australia comes “Goldstone,” an outback adventure done in film noir genre that brings our own desert to mind as the camera reveals some desolate desert landscape. Also, a must see.

The biggie is the Spielberg film “Ready Player One,” a virtual ride into a video game as player meets avatars and adventures in this millennial themed film.

In addition to movies, I often read books and am currently deep into "The Dawn Prayer," the incredible true story of Matthew Schrier who was in an Al Qaeda prison in Syria in 2012-2013. His experiences are horrifying and his ability to survive and escape is awe inspring.

My pal Lu went to school with Matthew's father Jeffrey many, many years ago. Jeffrey did not  know of his son's incarceration until he was home in the States. I am deep into this book right now and cannot put it down!

Monti and Zozo the wonder dog!
