Penn National’s, Hollywood Casino Charles Town is now expected to be among the first casinos in West Virginia to take a legal sports bet, according to media reports Friday.
Penn is the nation’s largest regional casino operator and has now met all requirements for interim licensing. William Hill, as speculated earlier this week, will run the sports betting operation on behalf of Penn.
The FanDuel Group, Friday, has also moved closer to opening up a sportsbook by gaining an interim license granted by the West Virginia Lottery Commission, managing general counsel Danielle Boyd told Sports Handle, a website that follows the new national sports wagering industry.
FanDuel has a deal to operate the sportbook at the Greenbrier Resort in White Sulphur Springs, but as of Friday had yet to post its $100,000 licensure fee, according to Sports Handle. Penn has already deposited its fee to the state.
Both books could be ready to take bets on or around Sept. 1st.
