Our first keno manager profile, is Brandis Franz,  bingo/keno manager at Santa Fe Station.

Franz, 38, has been an employee at Santa Fe for nearly 12 years, starting as an on-call keno runner. She said, “My family moved to Las Vegas when I was 8 and I grew up coming to Santa Fe. We ate dinner here a lot; I have many memories here. Eventually I became a full time keno writer, then a supervisor; then I was promoted to manager in June.”

GT: What attracts customers to keno? How do you get new players?

BF: “Jackpots are primarily what attract guests initially. The game can pay a lot and you don’t have to spend a lot. But guests keep coming back because we’ve created a family here. We have a lot of regulars at Santa Fe. Many have been coming here for years.

“Everyone from the team members to guests are very friendly and easy to talk to and keep coming back for the company. Our guests even eat meals together. It’s just really neat! When someone new comes in and looks at a brochure, often the regulars try to recruit them to the family, help explain the game and give them advice.”

Tell me about your keno lounge. How many seats? Are you 24/7? Amenities? Comps for players?

“We have 14 regular seats with armrests, four high-top bar tables with two chairs each, and a buddy bar with six slot machines. We’re open 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday-Thursday, and 8 a.m.-1 a.m. Friday and Saturday. We’re usually busier on weekends and do offer cocktail service. Our keno is linked to Station Casinos’ Boarding Pass program so guests earn points for their play.”

What keno specials do you run? Do you ever offer any tournaments?

“We’re offering 3x keno points every Monday through the end of October; then we’ll have a second chance keno drawing in November. If a guest has a losing ticket, they get to place it in a drum and get a second chance to win cash once a week with the drawing. We also do a VIP keno tournament three times a year that is by invitation only. To gain entry, a guest would have to win a weekly tournament, which runs Wednesday-Sunday.”

What’s the biggest win you have ever paid out?

“The biggest jackpot I’ve personally paid out was a little over $50,000. But we’ve had higher in the lounge.”

What advice can you give players who want to try keno?

“I’d tell them to come test their luck for just a buck. We’ve seen it happen so many times with keno where someone wins big with just a little money. A 9-spot player stopped and bought a $20 ticket and hit for $96,000.”

What are your interests, hobbies, family life loutside of the casino?

“I’m an outdoors person and love camping. I have three kids of my own and a stepson. I met my soon-to-be husband, Todd, at Santa Fe. He used to work here as a slot tech and we’ve been together 10 years. I just love being with my kids. One son just graduated, another plays soccer, and my daughter cheers. I feel like Santa Fe’s my home. Anything good  in my life has happened at Santa Fe.”
