If you’re looking to play MegaKeno, now’s the time.

The 10-spot MegaKeno is up to $2,463,000 and rising. The 9-spot is at $56,000 and rising. The 8-spot was recently hit and was at $63,000 and rising now. The 7 spot is high at $29,000 and rising, but given the odds of hitting a SOLID 7 it might very well be hit (as any of the progressives) by the time this column goes to press.

But let’s say that when you want to play that all four of these top progressives are attractive in your eyes. Remember, it is your money, thus you are the best judge of whether the progressive is high enough for your play.

Yes, the house advantage can be calculated but different players will have different ideas of what is worth playing and what is not worth playing. Your money is just as green as any other players, unless, of course, it got washed in the laundry.

Since we are playing just MegaKeno, we can use way tickets at $1.50/way to play for all these ways, 7 through 10 spots. For purposes of today’s column we shall ignore playing the 5- and 6-spot MegaKeno progressives.

The cheapest way to play all of these progressives, and, of course, giving you the fewest ways is to group your ticket a 7-2-1. This gives you a 7-spot, an 8-spot, a 9-spot, and a 10-spot. Total cost is $6 per ticket at $1.50 per way.

What is interesting here is that if you hit an 8-spot SOLID you will also hit a 7-spot a well. If you hit a 9-spot SOLID, you will also hit a 7-spot SOLID.

Of course is you hit the big one, the Mega 10, you will also hit the 7-, 8-, and 9-spots as well.

Winning is nice, isn’t it? Of course to hit it big you have to at least hit the group of 7 SOLID. You can break up the 7-spot in a groups of three and four, giving you more ways. But this would cost you more. Thus if you group your spots as 1-2-3-4 you would have a 10, a 9, an 8, and two 7s, for a total cost of $7.50. For $1.50 more, you have increased your chance of hitting a SOLID 7 as a hit of 1-2-0-4 or 0-0-3-4 would give you a SOLID 7 hit.

If you can handle this amount per game you would also get quite a few partial hits as you play keeping you in the running longer to give you a better chance of hitting the big one. If you are playing in Las Vegas, The Excalibur on the Strip and The Plaza and The El Cortez Downtown have the better MegaKeno Pay Tables. The El Cortez also offers you a 24-hour game.

Make sure to give in your slot card or account number when playing to get comp credit. Currently the El Cortez is offering five times points for Keno play. Combined with their higher slot club base return this is a very good deal for the keno player.  Some slot clubs offer 10 cents cash for every $100 in layer, Some offer 16 cents for every $100 but the El Cortez offers 25 cents for every $100 in play.

Multiply this by five at Keno and you are getting back $1.25 per every $100 in play win or lose. On top of this, you are also slowly building up food comps as well. Playing within your bankroll with money that you can afford to lose, playing the better tickets, always using your slot card can give you an enjoyable Keno experience.

The beauty of Keno is that the game moves slowly, thus allowing your bankroll to last that much longer. Another enjoyable feature of Keno is that it is the only game in the casino where you need not be present during the games play. Of course know the casino’s rules for how fast you need to cash in winning tickets.
