The long-awaited opening of Pizza Rock at Green Valley Ranch finally happened in time for March Madness. I’ve been a big fan ever since they opened one downtown and was very excited to learn of the GVR debut in my part of town.
When you walk into Pizza Rock at GVR you’re surrounded by 70-inch flat screen TVs all with your favorite sporting events. If you want want to have a cold one while watching the games you’ll have plenty of choices with 40 different beers on tap, including several craft beers you just won’t find at your everyday bar or restaurant. They also have over 60 different bottled beers giving you over 100 choices to quench your thirst with.
I went with my good friend Marc Metzler a fellow foodie like me but even more of an expert on the consumption of fine craft beers. Marc was quite pleased with the beers he sampled based on the suggestions he got from the staff.
We started our meal with a couple of appetizers. I put Pizza Rock’s meatballs on my top 3 lists of best in Vegas. We also tried a new appetizer that is only on the menu at the GVR location. The fried green tomato caprese with fresh mozzarella was very good and a nice light way to start your meal.
The New Yorker is my favorite pizza but wanting to expand my horizons we decided to try the Detroit red top entree. This was a square pan pizza cooked to perfection while giving you four squares with a crunchy caramelized cheese around the edges. The crunchy edges are what make this pizza.
If you’ve ever had great French onion soup you know when you’re done that crunchy melted cheese off the side of the cup is so good.
What makes the GVR location different than downtown is that it is a great sports bar and after all of the games are done the TVs are connected to Xbox games. You can hang out having some great craft beers and playing video games with your buddies. They are trying to make this as much of a hangout as it is a restaurant with great food. I believe they have found the perfect combination.
Our waitress was more than helpful as she knew her beers and had great suggestions. She kept our drinks filled and was constantly stopping by to make sure we didn’t need anything.
Green Valley Ranch was in need of a new hip restaurant and I think they found the perfect fit. I’m a big fan of both locations and give Pizza Rock 3.75 Forks.
