BOXING: Molina stops Conyers at Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas

Fighting for the second time in five weeks, Carlos Molina battered Allen Conyers in the seventh round en route to a TKO victory Friday night at the Cosmopolitan’s Boulevard Pool.

The bout showcased Cosmo’s fabulous outdoor facility, which was hampered a bit by unseasonably cold weather and winds that sometimes reached 35 mph.

Still it was a sterling scene for boxing with the fight shown live on the huge Cosmopolitan marquee sign overlooking Las Vegas Blvd.

Molina earned the main event appearance off his excellent effort against Erislandy Lara at the same Cosmopolitan venue, though that bout was held indoors.

The original main event fell through when Victor Cayo sustained a shoulder injury and was forced to pull out. The Molina-Conyers fight was shown live on ESPN3 and ESPN Deportes. ESPN2, which normally televises Friday Night Fights, was showing Game 6 of the San Antonio-Memphis NBA series.

The Fight Night at Cosmo II will be aired again on ESPN2 tonight.
