To celebrate Kentucky Derby, D offers own Derby

Apr 30, 2013 3:00 AM

To celebrate the Kentucky Derby, the D Las Vegas will offer three chances to win in a series of gaming promotions ending with race day celebrations and Mint Juleps ($6 at the Longbar all day) Saturday.

In honor of the big race at Churchill Downs, the D will hold its own form of Derby: its first-ever Sigma Derby Tournament, this Friday and Saturday. The Sigma invites die-hard fans of the classic, coin-operated horseracing game to gather around the mechanical track to compete for the chance at a $10,000 prize pool.

With a $50 buy-in, players will receive 40 quarters to wager over 10 races during which they bet on their chosen steeds. Registration will be held at Vue Bar this Thursday from 4-8 p.m. Tournament play begins at 10 a.m. Friday and ends Saturday with a final round as the tiny horses round the corner to the finish line.

All winnings are payable in free play. First place will win $2,500, second $1,000, third $500, fourth $300, fifth $200 and sixth through tenth $100 each.

For the second promotion, after the winning horse crosses the finish line at Churchill Downs on Saturday afternoon, the D will split $10,000 between bettors who wagered on the winner. Winnings are payable in free play or tax-free play-til-you-lose promo chips.

Casino guests can win unlimited betting tickets at slots and tables all week and bet on as many horses as they please. Tickets will be awarded for every 100 points earned in slots, every $300 buy-in on tables, every natural blackjack on $25 bets, every winning $100 field bet on dice and every $100 wagered in Keno.

The downtown property will also hold a Kentucky Derby Keno Tournament beginning Friday and running through the weekend with a finale Sunday. Registration for the Keno tournament begins Thursday at noon at the D front desk.

For a $500 buy-in, the live Keno tournament will offer guests the excitement of the traditional ball drawing game and another chance to win during Kentucky Derby weekend.

Arizona Charlie’s: Bets on the Kentucky Derby starting Thursday will receive a free Derby collector’s glass when placing a $20 minimum wager. Swipe the acePlay card at the kiosk for your voucher to get this special offer. Limit one per person, while supplies last. Offer good at both the Decatur and Boulder locales.

Golden Nugget: There will be a Kentucky Derby Viewing Party this Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in The Grand Ballroom featuring big screen TV’s, food and refreshment specials, including a full bar, table games, betting stations and Mint Julep specials.

California: The legendary hotel/casino hosts the 16th Annual Lei Day Polynesian Festival this Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. both days. The annual Polynesian festival brings together musicians, dancers, artists, craftsmen and food and beverage vendors to showcase the very best of Hawaii.

Entry to the two-day event is free. Further information is available at www.thecal.com or by calling 702-385-1222.

Until next week…good luck! May your horse come in first!
