The MegaKeno 9-spot progressive was hit twice by the same person and only five games apart at Foxwoods. The first time he received the $310,000 progressive and the second time he hit it for $110,000 as Xpertx puts in a backup meter on their progressives just so the jackpot will be above reset and still interesting to play.
Now that raises the question: Where do we go now? We play the other high progressives. The 10-spot is over $2.4 million and there’s the 9-spot. Let’s set up a way ticket to target these two progressives. Play a grouping of 2-2-2-2-2 and you will have a single 10-spot and five 8-spots for a cost of $9 as you must play exactly $1.50 per game or per way for MegaKeno.
You might ask, what about the possible 6-spots? I will let you, the reader, be the judge as to how high the 6-spot progressive must go to make it worthwhile for you to play. Playing the 6s (there are 10 of them) will add $15 to the cost of your ticket. Of course, you can play the 5- and 7-spot jackpot and whatever the 9-spot is at the time. Currently it is just over $50,000 due to the double hit.
But watch it, as it will rise, especially since Xpertx uses some of the money from other progressives that are played to prop up progressives that have just fallen to reset due being hit. Play a grouping of 3-2-2-2 and you will have a 9, three 7’s and three 5’s, for a total ticket cost of $10.50.
Another option is to check out any other special tickets offered by the casino that are a good value to you. Just remember, while you can go to the same writer to print your tickets, MegaKeno must be written on a separate one and cannot be combined with non-MegaKeno play.
Here is a great little 9-spot ticket that literally has everything going for it. The El Cortez 65-cent rate has a great 9-spot for you to try. It costs only 65 cents but pays $50,000 for a solid 9-of-9 hit. In addition, the ticket returns your money for a hit of four of nine. Five of nine pays $2, six of nine $20, seven of nine $150, eight of nine $2,000 and the solid 9 pays $50,000.
If you also like 6-spots the El Cortez 65-cent rate pays $2,000 for a six of six. Just play a ticket grouped 3-3-3, giving you a 9 and three 6’s for a whopping cost of $2.60.
There used to be a term, “video poker heaven,” that referred to the area and casinos offering a high return (with proper play) in video poker, giving the players excellent value for their gaming dollar (or nickel or quarter). Well, there are places that really have a great keno game due to their wide variety of tickets and better pay tables than their competitors.
Few places outside of downtown Las Vegas offer $7,000 for a 40-cent 7-of-7 hit but the California, Fremont, The D, and El Cortez (from west to east) offer this great deal. When playing in these casinos splurge by spending $8.40 for a 21-game ticket (40 cents per game or way) for 7-spots. To me, a 7-spot offers more bang for your buck than any other ticket. It is six times easier to hit as an 8-spot and in some casinos, such as in downtown Las Vegas, pays proportionately more in terms of hitting difficulty.
There are progressives all over Nevada for keno from the More to the Meter progressive at The Atlantis in Reno, to the many casinos offering MegaKeno. The Excalibur, Plaza, and El Cortez use the better rate card in Las Vegas for MegaKeno when playing the 5- through 9-spot progressives.
Station Casinos offers their own progressive for 6- through 9-spots. The Gold Coast and Orleans offer a $1 8-spot progressive. If you are into playing keno on machines, try out the new four-card Cleopatra, the 3-5-10 play keno, and the new U1 machines at the El Cortez.
I really like four-card Cleopatra as you get to the bonus round of 12 free games quite often. If you hit in the bonus round your pay is doubled. It is even possible to have a bonus round going at the same time for multiple cards in four-card keno. This can happen should you have some identical numbers on the four cards you play, as getting into the bonus round occurs when the last ball drawn is part of a paying ticket, even a just-get-your-bet-back win.
