The Golden Nugget Hotel and Casino in downtown Las Vegas is hosting its fifth annual Grand Poker Series now through July 4.
The month-long event at the Grand Events Center features more than 270 poker tournaments. More than 16,000 players from 25 countries entered last year’s event, which awarded in excess of $2.2 million in total prize money.
In addition to the standard tournament games – no-limit hold’em, Omaha high-low, 7-card stud and H.O.R.S.E – the Grand Poker Series also offers tournaments with various mixed-game formats such as 7-stud/razz/stud high-low, 7-stud/Omaha high-low, pot-limit hold’em/pot-limit Omaha, and badugi/2-7 triple draw.
Special tournaments include a seniors event, a ladies-only event, and a Guys ‘n Dolls Tag Team no-limit hold’em tournament with a buy-in of $230 per couple.
Buy-ins for the Grand Poker Series range from $125 to $230 for most tournaments. Players receive 10,000 starting chips, with the option of making a $10 “Bonus Buy” to receive an additional 2,000 chips. Levels last 40 minutes with a 10-minute break at the end of every three rounds, and a one-hour dinner break after nine levels. The Grand Finale $1,080 buy-in championship tournament features 60-minute levels and 20,000 starting chips, plus 5,000 extra chips for the optional $10 “Bonus Buy.” The blinds start at 25/50 and double each hour, with antes kicking in after the third level.
“No-limit Hold’em Bankroll Builder” short tournaments with $65 buy-ins and $40 rebuys are scheduled every four hours daily starting at 11 a.m. to 4 a.m. Several $125 super satellites for the $1,080 buy-in championship are scheduled.
The GN will also be hosting a special Poker Player of the Year no-limit hold’em tourney July 4 at noon.
