Mike “The Mouth” Matusow beat his good friend Phil Hellmuth in the finals to capture the $750,000 first prize in NBC’s National Heads Up Poker Championship completed last week at Caesars Palace.

Matusow also picked up 504 Player of the Year points. Hellmuth, the tourney champ in 2005, gained 420 POY points plus a runnerup check of $300,000.

Las Vegas resident Bruce Miller, who won the only outside invitation in the field of 64, reached the second round before falling to Joseph Cheong.

The NBC Sports Network will show the event weekly beginning in March.
