Wednesday at Cal State Tournament features $1M guarantee

The California State Poker Championship at Commerce Casino continues this week with a variety of events to help you build your bankroll before the World Series of Poker begins at the end of the month.

This weekend was Event 11: the $350 No-Limit Hold’em with a $300,000 guarantee. With six flights starting last Thursday there were plenty of opportunities for players to make a score.

There were 1,283 total entries creating a prize pool of $384,900. The tournament featured the following payouts: First, $57,070; Second, $39,700; Third, $23,650.

As usual, Tournament Director Matt Savage has a great mix of games and buy-ins to appeal to both the recreational player and the pro. Sunday was a perfect example with two events appealing to different segments of players.

Budget-friendly Event 12: $240 No-Limit Hold’em Knockout Big Bounty featured $100 Bounties and a $50,000 guarantee. For mixed-games players, the $570 Pot-Limit Omaha Double Stack with players starting with 25,000 chips was on the schedule.

On Monday, May 8, the mixed-game action continued with Event 15: $350 Pot-Limit Omaha 8 or Better. Tuesday is your last chance to satellite into the Main Event with a $175 Main Event Mega Satellite guaranteeing 10 seats at 5 and 8 p.m.

Event 16 this Wednesday is an $1,100 No-Limit Hold’em Main Event featuring a $1 million guarantee that kicks off at 1 p.m. Additional flights are on Thursday and Friday at 1 p.m., and Saturday at noon.

Players start with 15,000 in chips. All Day 1 sessions will pay one in eight players, and the top 5% of each starting session will return for Day 2 this Sunday at 1 p.m. If players qualify for Day 2 more than once, they will play the higher chip stack. First place includes a $10,000 WPT 2018 LAPC Main Event Seat.

Some winners this past week were Frankie Odell, Event 5: Omaha 8 or Better; Denny Kim, Event 6: No-Limit Hold’em 8 Hours and Time’s Up Bounty; and Richard Rennes, Event 9: $350 Omaha8/Stud 8 or Better.
