The Gardens Casino in Hawaiian Gardens has partnered with the World Poker Tour and will bring the WPT500 for the first time to California. The WPT500 is a series of international tournaments with an accessible buy-in starting at $550 held at premiere casino properties around the globe.
The 2017 Gardens Poker Festival kicked off on Monday at noon with a $175 buy-in No-Limit Hold’em Bounty tournament with $50 bounties. The tournament featured a $30,000 guarantee.
The schedule features a mix of events. On the schedule Tuesday at 10 a.m. is a $110 No-Limit Hold’em Seniors Event for players 50 or over with a $10,000 guarantee. Players under 50 can buy in for $1,000. Players start with 5,000 chips and can add on an additional 7,000 for $50.
An unusual event also on Tuesday is a $110 Limit Hold’em event at noon with a $10,000 guarantee. I don’t remember the last time I have seen a limit event on a tournament schedule.
Wednesday at noon is a $175 No-Limit Hold’em Deepstack with a $40,000 guarantee. Players start with 6,000 chips and can buy an additional 7,000 chips for $50.
Wednesday will also feature a $110 buy-in No-Limit Hold’em Timed tournament at 5 p.m. with an action clock. The first four levels will be 30 minutes; thereafter blind levels will be raised every 20 minutes.
The action clock will be used once the field is down to 36 players. Players will have 30 seconds to act on their hands. Players will receive three time extensions worth 30 seconds each. This sounds like a great way to keep the action moving once players get close to the money and tend to stall for time.
Friday will feature a $110 Big O Hi-Lo/Seven Stud Hi-Lo 8 or Better for the mixed-games players. Players start with 5,000 chips but can add on for $50 to receive 7,000 additional chips.
The WPT500 Main Event begins Sunday at 11 a.m. This marquee event features a $1 million guarantee for a $565 buy-in. Day Ones will run until Monday, May 29. Players begin with 15,000 starting chips. There are no rebuys or add-ons.
This event is the ultimate bankroll builder for the World Series of Poker. Single table satellites will run through May 30. Mega Satellites will run from May 20-24 at 6 p.m. for three Main Event seats guaranteed for an $80 buy-in.
