Northern Star Casinos own and operate five casino properties in Northern Nevada. Their casinos and lodging properties capture a relaxed, comfortable charm while offering the newest games, innovative promotions, aggressive cash back, comps and friendly service. Their guiding principal is to deliver a value driven, quality experience for all customers regardless of the location you choose to visit.
El Capitan Lodge & Casino in Hawthorne is the largest of the five casinos slot floors (13,000 square feet) and considered to be a “hot spot” between Reno and Las Vegas. Pink and blue neon atop the circle bar are reminiscent of an old style Vegas gamblin’ joint. The property offers guests the latest slots and video poker games, one restaurant, and over 100 large, clean rooms for travelers. The El Cap gets its name from the famous mountain range located in Yosemite National Park.
The iconic Ramada Elko Hotel and Casino, formerly Stockmen’s Hotel & Casino, is located in the heart of downtown Elko. They have an 8,000 square foot casino with slots, video poker and table games, two restaurants, live entertainment and 140 guest rooms.
Perhaps most interesting of the five properties, The Commercial Casino, built in 1869, was originally named the Humboldt Lodging House. It was purchased in 1893 and renamed Commercial in 1941, with the advent of legalized gaming in Nevada. The early history of Commercial is filled with folklore.
In the 1800’s Commercial was the scene of a murder when “Handsome Harry” and his mistress (an infamous Elko prostitute) were shot to death by her husband in one of the second floor hotel rooms. Rumors, and many sightings, have it that Handsome Harry wanders the second floor of the old hotel looking for his lost lover yet today! The fate of the estranged husband is uncertain, but many say he killed himself because he could not cope with the loss of his wife.
Commercial is probably the only casino in the world with a 10 foot, 4 inch giant white polar bear stuffed and standing guard by the entrance. White King was killed by an Eskimo in Alaska. The actual date of his death is unknown. The stuffed, mounted polar bear was purchased by a former casino owner from Jonas Brothers when they were located in Denver. White King resides in the same location in Commercial today that he has occupied since his arrival in 1958!
The casino has two restaurants and slot machines. Commercial partners in invited guest events and community activities with the Ramada Elko Hotel and Casino, located just yards away in downtown Elko.
When traveling I-80 take exit 176 and stop at the historic Model T Casino located in Winnemucca. Guests can enjoy slots and video poker, one of 75 clean, comfortable pet-friendly rooms for the night, or take advantage of the extended stay rates. They also have an RV park.
The Scoreboard Sports Lounge is only ten minutes away from Ramada Elko Hotel and Casino and Commercial Casino in Spring Creek. You can shoot pool and watch your favorite game on one of 23 televisions or play slot and video poker machines. All Northern Star Casinos also have a sportsbook.
Player’s Choice Club with three membership levels is utilized at all five properties, offering members the opportunity to earn points and receive comps. Use your card to be eligible for direct mail offers such as cash, comps, and special invited guest slot tournaments, promotions, point multipliers, drawings, comps, free play and cash back. All properties feature daily casino promotions.
