PointsBet horse racing is coming to the US. While we don’t yet know the official name of the PointsBet horse racing app, the company has a long tradition of industry success in its native Australia.
PointsBet made its foray into the US horse racing market last year when it acquired Premier Turf Club, LLC, an advanced deposit wagering company licensed by the Oregon Racing Commission. BetPTC.com is operating as a PointBet subsidiary dedicated to horse racing in the US.
In October 2022, Premier Turf Club announced a partnership agreement with 1/ST TECHNOLOGY, a business division of The Stronach Group (“TSG”), North America’s dominant Thoroughbred horse racing company. PointsBet and 1/ST Technology will collaborate on integration and launch of the one-of-a-kind 1/ST BET online horse wagering product in US jurisdictions where Advance Deposit Wagering (ADW) is permitted.
The agreement encompasses 1/ST’s broad portfolio of products and services including 1/ST BET, Xpressbet, Monarch Content Management, and AmTote International. Racing customers of 1/ST TECHNOLOGY’s currently operated brands, Xpressbet and 1/ST BET, will be introduced to the world of Sports Betting and iCasino via PointsBet products through this unique marketing partnership.
In this review, we’ll explain as much as is known about PointsBet horse racing’s current status in the states.

The $200 sign-up bonus is available for new accounts only. Terms & conditions apply. New users must wager $750 within 30 days of registering their account to be eligible for the $200 betting bonus. Show wagers are not eligible to meet the threshold, nor are place wagers on international races. Once the threshold is met, email [email protected] and your bonus funds will be issued within 24 hours. Bonus funds are treated as real cash, but there’s a 1X playthrough requirement before any withdrawals can be made.
How does BetPTC’s welcome bonus stack up against the competition? The amount of BetPTC’s bonus is equal to TVG, but there’s no threshold to meet at the latter. TVG offers a $200 bet bonus, and if your first bet loses, the company will refund you with a bonus up to $200 (in the amount of your initial wager).
As mentioned, BetPTC doesn’t currently offer a horse racing app. Customers can wager online or by telephone.
New users can register online by providing the following personal information: name, phone number, email address, home address, social security number, and driver’s license number and state. Once registered, the next step involves making a minimum $25 initial deposit.
BetPTC’s deposit methods include:
- BetPTC Cash
- Credit/Debit Card
- Via US Mail
- Bank Wire
- PayNearMe
BetPTC.com is licensed and regulated by the Oregon Racing Commission as an Advance Deposit Wagering (ADW) company and maintains an exemplary record of compliance. BetPTC.com is known for its experienced, horse player focused management team and rewards program which has established it as a preferred way to bet on horseracing in the United States by many well-known handicappers and recreational players alike.
BetPTC horse racing betting options are plentiful and compare favorably to TVG, BetMGM Horse Racing, and Caesars Racebook.
Available bet types include:
- Win
- Place
- Show
- Exacta
- Trifecta
- Superfecta
- Super Hi-5
- Daily Double
- Pick 3
Horse racing uses a parimutuel betting system. This means that you aren’t betting against the house but your fellow bettors. Individual betting markets are created, and bettors determine a horse’s final odds by the amount of money that enters the market.
Win bets are made on horses to win. Place bets are made on horses to finish second. Show bets are made on horses to finish third.
Exacta bets are made on horses to finish first and second. Trifecta bets are made on horses to finish, first, second, and third. Superfecta bets are made on horses to finish, first, second, third, and fourth.
Bettors have the ability to “box” horses in these wagers. This is a form of insurance that allows the selected horses to finish in any order. For example, you can select a $2 exacta box using three horses that will cost you $12. It ensures that your horses can finish in any order and as long as two of them run first and second, you win.
There are also bets that task you with picking the winner of different races. The Daily Double is typically offered on the first and last two races on a track’s betting card. In the early double, for example, you’d pick the winner of the first and second races.
There are also Pick-3 and Pick-6 options that require you to select the winners in three or six races, respectively.
BetPTC doesn’t offer live bets on races, but it does offer live streaming for most tracks it has simulcast deals with domestically and internationally.
This is a good time to mention one of the main benefits that separates BetPTC from other operators. It offers cash-back rewards daily on all the tracks you choose to wager on. The selection of tracks includes US classics such as Santa Anita and Gulfstream Park. BetPTC also offers wagering on premier international events such as the Dubai World Cup.
Major Horse Races to Bet on at BetPTC
Horse racing’s Triple Crown features the Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes, and Belmont Stakes. These are three of the most watched races annually in the US.
Kentucky Derby
The first Saturday in May brings horse racing’s “Run for the Roses” at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky.
The 2022 Kentucky Derby featured an upset for the ages when 80-1 Rich Strike rallied up the rail to victory at the second highest odds of any horse to win the Derby.
Preakness Stakes
The Preakness Stakes is the middle leg of the American Triple Crown and is held on the third Saturday in May each year at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland. Early Voting held off favored Epicenter to win the 2022 Preakness Stakes for four-time Eclipse Award winning trainer Chad Brown.
Belmont Stakes
The final leg of the Triple Crown is also the most grueling at a length of 1-1/2 miles. Most horses will never be asked to run that distance again in their racing careers.
There’s a reason why only 13 horses have ever won the Triple Crown — by winning the Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes, and Belmont Stakes —and the Belmont is a major factor.
Mo Donegal won the 2022 Belmont Stakes at Belmont Park in Elmont, New York.
Breeders’ Cup
Aside from the Triple Crown races, the Breeders’ Cup is a huge event each fall in the US. The 2023 Breeders’ Cup is scheduled for Nov. 3-4 at Santa Anita Park in California for its 40th running. It will feature 14 championship races culminating with the $6 million Breeders’ Cup Classic.
Undefeated Flightline won the 2022 Breeders’ Cup Classic at Keeneland.
To reiterate, there’s no BetPTC or PointsBet Horse Racing app available to date. We’ll keep you posted here on any future developments.
It doesn’t seem fair to offer a grade on a product that isn’t available on the market yet. BetPTC, as a subsidiary of PointsBet, offers a great online product for horse bettors in the states. Given PointsBet’s long history of innovation and horse racing betting in Australia, we’d expect that any PointsBet horse racing app offered in the future would be worth having at the race track or at home.

Track handicappers establish morning-line odds for horses. But horse racing operates on a pari-mutuel wagering system, and the closing odds are determined by the amount of money wagered on each horse by bettors.
