Promos

TVG offers an excellent welcome bonus for new users: Up to $200 back on First Bet Loss using code 200TVG

Terms and conditions apply, but they are pretty generous compared to the competition. Your first bet must be made within 15 days of signing up. The bet must be a win/place, win/show or win/place/show wager. It can made on any race at any track. Only single horse wagers (no exotics) will count as an eligible wager. Only the win portion of a win/place, win/show or win/place/show wager shall be counted as eligible. If your first bet loses, you will receive a bonus equal to the amount wagered, up to a maximum of $200. Any unused portion of the bonus will be withdrawn from your TVG Account after 30 days.

This bonus compares favorably to some of TVG’s competitors both in the amount and execution. For example, some other apps offer up to $200 in bonus money, but the bonus is only earned after a 4x playthrough.  So really, $800 worth of wagers is required to earn the full amount. TVG’s offer is much more straightforward and bettor-friendly than that.

Betting On The Triple Crown Races At TVG

TVG is owned by FanDuel, the premier online gaming company in North America. FanDuel Sportsbook customers will be able to wager on the Kentucky Derby for the first time through the integrated platform in 2023.

The 2023 Kentucky Derby trail is heating up with the final major prep races all coming up. Reigning 2-year-old champion Forte got his 3-year-old season off to a spectacular start when he captured the Grade 2 Fountain of Youth Stakes by 4 1/2 lengths at Gulfstream Park on March 4. The son of Violence is expected to have his final Kentucky Derby prep in the Grade 1 Florida Derby on April 1 at Gulfstream.

Last year’s Kentucky Derby featured an upset for the ages when Rich Strike, a last-minute addition to the Kentucky Derby (G1) field from the also-eligible list, rallied from far back to pull an 80-1 upset of Saturday’s 148th Run for the Roses. In deep stretch, the onetime maiden claimer rolled past favored Epicenter and Zandon to spark a $163.60 win mutuel.

FanDuel Sportsbook is officially the first online sportsbook in the US to offer horse racing in the same app as sports betting.

5
App

TVG’s horse race betting app is among the industry’s best options.  The TVG app gives you access to more than 300 tracks across the world. Race broadcasts are delivered live in HD. New users will also be able to take advantage of TVG’s exclusive handicapping information including past performances and race replays. You can set alerts for the Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes, Belmont Stakes, Breeders’ Cup, or any race you don’t want to miss. Experienced and novice bettors will find everything they are looking for and more on the TVG app.

Apple Users

Users of Apple iOS will find the TVG app readily available in the Apple App Store. The only exceptions to this are in Arizona and New Jersey. Arizona does not allow mobile wagering, so account access is only available using a desktop computer and wagers may only be placed using TVG’s wagering hotline number (1-888-TVG-Wager.) New Jersey does allow mobile wagering, but TVG operates under the name 4NJBets in that state.

Android Users

TVG does have an Android mobile app, but it is currently only available on Google Play in Illinois and Indiana. In other states, Android users have to download the app directly from TVG’s website (or use the website, which is optimized for mobile users.)

Creating an account

Once you have downloaded your app or accessed the mobile website, the registration process is pretty straightforward. Just click the Sign Up button in the top right of the screen and follow the prompts.

Funding Your Account

TVG offers a wide variety of deposit options. Users should be sure to check through the list of options before depositing as some of them require a fee while others do not. Fee-free options include e-check, Money Orders, Checks, Green Dot MoneyPak, or cash at a participating Track or at a retail location using the PayNearMe option. Debit/Credit Cards, PayPal, TVG Prepaid Cards are also available but those all come with a $5 fee and a Wire Transfer will cost you $15.

Placing Your First Bet

Once your account is funded, you are ready to make your first bet. TVG puts the upcoming races at the top of the home screen. The day’s most popular races are located right below this. You can also search for races by entering the track’s name. Click on any race and you will see the full field of horses. Tap on any horse to place a “win” bet for that horse in your betslip. There are also options for other types of bets at the top of the screen.

5
Betting Options

TVG does a great job in putting all of the betting options you would expect to find at the track right at the tip of your fingers. Even better is that you can do it all from the comfort of your own home without having to wait in any lines at the betting window.

Parimutuel Betting

Horse racing is a type of parimutuel betting. Think of it as competing against your fellow gamblers instead of the house or sportsbook. All of the money in a given betting market goes into one pool and winners split the spoils (after taxes and track fee). This may take some getting used to for sports bettors where the odds are set by the bookmaker and are locked in when a bet is placed. In pari-mutuel wagering, the payout odds are determined based on the number of winning bets placed and the total size of the betting pool.

Win, Place, Show Bets

You might have heard the expression “win, place, and show.” This comes from horse racing and it represents the sport’s basic bets on an individual horse.

  • Win bet: You’re wagering that your chosen horse will finish the race first.
  • Place bet: Your horse must finish either first or second to win this wager.
  • Show bet: Your horse can finish either first, second, or third to win this bet.

It’s also possible to bet a single horse “across the board” and you’ll have individual wagers on the win, place, and show.

Multiple Race Bets

TVG also offers bets on multiple horses in more than one race. The Daily Double asks you to pick the winner of horses in consecutive races. The Pick-3 and Pick-5 involve picking the winners of three and five races, respectively.

Exotic Bets

TVG offers the following exotic bets, and they can have huge payouts depending on the number of horses as well as the odds on each particular horse.

  • Exacta: Bet on first and second horse in the correct order.
  • Trifecta: Bet on first, second, and third horse in the right order.
  • Superfecta: Bet on the first, second, third, and fourth horse in the correct order.

Bettors have the ability to “box” these bets. This simply means you’ll pay more and the horses can finish in any order.

4.5
Live

TVG offers live HD broadcasts from over 300 tracks on your mobile device. This service is free to anyone with a TVG wagering account, and the majority of races can be streamed. Some tracks may not offer live streaming and some big races have exclusive broadcast deals with TV networks.

4
Availability

Interestingly, TVG is available and perfectly legal in many states where other forms of sports betting are not. However, Google Play has restrictions in place in many of these states that can make getting the TVG app a bit of a hassle.

Of the 32 states where TVG operates, 30 of them allow for the TVG wagering app to be downloaded directly from the Apple App Store. The exceptions are Arizona, which does not allow mobile wagering and NJ, where TVG operates under the 4NJBets brand.

On the other hand, only 2 of the 32 states (Illinois and Indiana) allow for the TVG Android App to be offered in the Google Play Store. Luckily for residents of the other 30 states, you can download the app directly from TVG’s website.  Or, you can use the mobile website. The experience at TVG.com is nearly identical to the one offered on the mobile app.

Really, knocking down TVG’s score in the availability category might be a little unfair, since the Google Play restrictions are not the fault of the operator.  Really, users should know that until these restrictions are lifted, TVG is just as available as competitors.

4.7
Overall

TVG’s overall score comes from an average of the marks it received in the previous categories. In the final analysis, it’s only limited availability that really brings this number down. And since the availability issues are universal across the horse racing betting industry right now, we can’t see any apps scoring much higher than TVG.

Bottom line: TVG is a highly recommended app for betting on horse racing.

Betting On The Kentucky Derby With TVG

The Kentucky Derby is set to be run on May 6, 2023, at Churchill Downs in Louisville and TVG customers will be able to wager on the first leg of the Triple Crown.

In September 2022 Churchill Downs Incorporated announced a multi-year agreement with FanDuel involving multiple facets of FanDuel’s sports wagering, advance deposit wagering (“ADW”) and television businesses. CDI will provide FanDuel wagering rights to horse racing content owned or controlled by CDI, including the Kentucky Derby.

FanDuel will also receive exclusive television rights to the racing content of all CDI Thoroughbred racetracks, including Churchill Downs Racetrack, once its existing non-Derby media rights deal expires in 2023. The Agreement excludes certain specified racing content, including Kentucky Derby Week.

Take advantage of the offer for up to $200 back on First Bet Loss (promo code: 200TVG) and build your bankroll for betting on the Kentucky Derby!
