Vegas still top tourist destination

The economic slump may have slowed tourism this year, but Las Vegas still holds the title of the world’s top vacation destination.

That’s according to Yahoo Travel, which ranked the city No. 1, ahead of Miami, Cancun, San Diego and other popular getaways.

While tourism officials will be grateful for the selection, Las Vegas locals may take offense to some of the backhanded compliments in the Yahoo! Travel article.

"No city in history has so explicitly valued the needs of visitors above those of its own population," it said, describing the rapid growth of casinos on the Las Vegas Strip. "All of its growth has been fueled by tourism, but the tourists haven’t spoiled the "real" city; there is no real city."
