There are signs the major gaming machine manufacturers are gearing up for the possibility of legal online gaming.
WMS Gaming, one of the top three US-based slot makers, announced it is entering the Internet gaming market in Europe. Among the regions being considered are France, Italy, and Spain.
"We are the leaders in casino innovation and we want to leverage that insight online," WMS executive director of online gaming Brian Morgan told EGRmagazine. "We will only trade in markets where e-gaming is expressly legal, but there is plenty on our radar and we will expand market by market."
Another slot maker, industry leader IGT, is strengthening its online and mobile gaming division, and casino operator Harrah’s Entertainment has begun operating its own Internet gaming division, among others.
Just as WMS pledges to obey national regulations of online gambling on the global market, so does Harrah’s insist its program is designed to operate in Europe.
