Stanley Ho, the gaming czar of Macau until the Chinese enclave expanded its gaming licenses a few years ago, is expected to be released from a Hong Kong hospital next week, according to the tycoon’s fourth and current wife, Angela Leong.
Speaking at the Spring Festival luncheon Monday, held by the Legislative Assembly for Macau media, Leong, a member of the legislative body, said Ho continues to make progress from the surgery that took place last August. She denied published reports that Ho’s health was deteriorating.
Ho’s Sociedade de Jogos de Macau operates some 16 casinos and has the largest market share of gaming revenues in Macau.
His only public appearance since the surgery took place last month at the inauguration of Macau’s new government led by Fernando Chui Sai On. At that ceremony, he was seated in a wheelchair and was accompanied by his wife and a son, Lawrence Ho, CEO of Melco Entertainment Ltd. (MPEL).
