A different location

Looking to avoid the already crowded casino markets, Ameristar Casinos Inc. (ASCA) has suggested to Missouri gaming authorities that they should consider the southeast Missouri area for the site of its 13th and last casino gaming license.

The license becomes available with the July closing of the President Casino in downtown St. Louis.

A recent study suggested that the license be placed in Cape Girardeau, Chain of Rocks, near St. Louis and Sugar Creek in the Kansas City area.

Ameristar officials said a Cape Girardeau location would provide the greatest tax benefit, something on the order of $23.5 million per year.
