The gaming industry’s largest convention and trade show, Global Gaming Expo (G2E), will be switching venues and dates beginning in 2011, it was announced Tuesday.
Beginning next year, G2E will be held in October, about a month earlier than its current dates, and it will move from the Las Vegas Convention Center to the Sands Expo & Convention Center.
The changes were made to give casino operators additional time to plan for their following years’ budgets, give manufacturers a better chance of selling their products and to put more "breathing room" between G2E and other trade shows, according to American Gaming Association President Fahrenkopf Jr. "Historically, with the trade show in November, it was held after companies had submitted their annual budgets," Fahrenkopf said. "(This shift) allows casino operators to plan for the coming year with greater ease."
Fahrenkopf added that the change in dates reflects the global nature of the business, giving exhibitors at G2E and London’s International Gaming Expo in January "more breathing room and planning time."
The move from the larger Convention Center to Sands Expo was made because the latter had access to more dining and entertainment options.
"The move to the Sands Expo and Convention Center provides (the) convenience of rooms, dinning and entertainment all under the same roof," Fahrenkopf said.
This year’s G2E – the tenth anniversary of the convention and trade show – will be held Nov. 16-18, at the Las Vegas Convention Center, which is about half a mile from the Sands Expo & Convention Center.
