New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie’s plan to save Atlantic City by creating a tourism zone is now reaching beyond the casino area.

According to the Casino Reinvestment Development, the area now being designated as part of the tourism zone is 50 percent larger than the official area.

"The district is very much focused on creating a development and investment environment which allows for the expansion of opportunities here. The objective here is to build upon our existing assets," a spokeswoman explained.

The zone now includes the entire Boardwalk and two blocks inland, most of Atlantic Avenue, and shopping areas downtown and at The Walk. It also includes a marina where three casinos are located and development sites including former airport Bader Field.
