Tunica’s nine casinos close because of Mississippi River

The Mississippi Gaming Commission has ordered the closing of Tunica’s nine casinos that are under threat from an overflowing Mississippi River.

The closings will displace 10,000 workers and will cost the Delta community millions of dollars in lost revenue.

Rising water levels are expected to close casinos in Greenville, Vicksburg and Natchez.

Weather forecasters have warned that heavy rains expected this week will send the Mississippi River to flood levels.
