South Point Casino giving away a car a day in May

B CONNECTED: As regular readers probably know, we love sales and really good bargains. One of our favorite places is the Nordstrom Rack where you can get top quality clothing for up to 70% off (sometimes more) when it’s on the final markdown rack.

But with the price of gas inching ever upward, our bargain hunting trips are pricey says husband Ron, and our savings can be easily wiped out with one fill up.

Because of this, we are always on the look out for bargains at the pump; and Boyd Gaming has given us new hope for future trips to the Rack.

Every time you swipe your B Connected player’s card at a Rebel Oil gas station, now through June 30, you receive a five-cent-per-gallon discount. Also, the B Connected card doubles as a Rebel Rewards card, which means further discounts can be earned when purchases are made at Rebel convenience stores.

By accumulating discounts (they must be redeemed within 30 days) you can roll prices back enough to get up to 15 gallons of gas for free, which we think is a super bargain.

There are 50 participating Rebel stations so there’s sure to be a convenient location. All the details are available at the Boyd website (www.boydgaming.com).

HYBRID HAPPINESS: We ran into Michael Gaughan while at South Point Casino recently. The top gun of the locals gaming establishment on the far south end of Las Vegas Boulevard, explained why he included a hybrid car in his Toyota a Day Giveaway.

"I drove a hybrid not too long ago and I was impressed," Gaughan told us. "It ran great and had just as much power as a regular car. The change from gasoline to electric was seamless. You couldn’t even tell unless you were paying very close attention."

Every single day this month one lucky person will win either a Findlay Toyota Camry or Prius Hybrid. All you have to do is swipe your player’s card each day to receive five electronic entries. Of course, your play will get you more entries. For every $1 coin-in you earn one point. When you have five points you earn an entry. It’s as simple as that.

All the rules are posted at The Club booth at the casino and there’s no cost to receive a player’s card.

DERBY PICK: We’ve decided to put our money on Nehro this year in the Kentucky Derby. We were onto the Mineshaft colt, owned by Ahmed Zayat and trained by Steve Asmussen, early thanks to the eagle eye of ace handicapper Nagim "The Moose" Moosa.

The New Orleans native, who is nearly 90 years young, still has the touch when it comes to scouting out a good thing. He gave us a call right before the Louisiana Derby.

"I’ve been watching this colt and he’s improved greatly. If he runs the way I think he will in the Louisiana Derby," The Moose told us, "they’ll put him in the Arkansas Derby and there will be no stopping him.

"You should get your future bet in before the Arkansas because after that his price will go way down," he correctly predicted.

We placed a small wager at 50-1 odds. Nehro ran a great race in the Arkansas Derby coming in second by a nose; the odds dropped to 12-1. Currently, he’s 6-1 at Wynn Las Vegas.

See you around town.
