Mark Giannantonio, who led the Tropicana Casino and Resort through one of the most turbulent periods any Atlantic City casino has ever experienced, said Friday he is being replaced by the former president of two other New Jersey casinos.

The 47-year-old Giannantonio said the casino’s new owners are ousting him in favor of Tony Rodio, the former president of Resorts Atlantic City and the Atlantic City Hilton Casino Resort.

The new owners, a company controlled by billionaire Carl Icahn, was expected to formally announce the move later Friday afternoon.

"I’ve really enjoyed my years at the Tropicana, really enjoyed the employees and the customers here," he said. "I’m looking forward to what the future holds."
