House bill reconsidered and passed in Chicago

What a difference two days made last week in Illinois. Under discussion was a House bill that would have created five new casinos, including one in Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel has been demanding.

When the committee was asked to vote on sending the bill to the full House for action, only five of the 11 members approved. Expanded gambling in Illinois seems dead for this legislative session.

But two days later, the same Executive Committee members were asked to reconsider their votes. The measure passed 8-3.

No one is predicting the outcome when the full House takes up the measure.
