Former Massachusetts House Speaker Sal DiMasi, the single biggest impediment to casinos in the Bay State during his tenure, has been convicted of contract manipulation in exchange for a bribe.

He is the third consecutive House Speaker in Massachusetts to be deposed following indictments and convictions.

DiMasi was convicted of conspiracy, extortion and theft of honest services by fraud that involved a $17.5 million software firm contract.

At sentencing in September, DiMasi faces up to 20 years in prison on each of six counts. Neither of his two predecessors served prison time following their convictions.
