Looking to be in the front lines should California pass legislation that would permit intrastate online poker, Scientific Games Corporation (SGMS) says that Sciplay, its joint venture with Playtech Limited, has signed an agreement with the California Online Poker Association to be its provider of internet poker services.

COPA, as the organization is called, represents 29 tribal casinos and 31 state-licensed card rooms.

In the agreement, Sciplay will provide a "full suite" of poker services, including network management boosting, advisory services, customer support, internal marketing and all associated hardware.

California lawmakers are in the midst of considering legislation to authorize and license intrastate internet poker offerings. While awaiting action, COPA plans to offer "play for fun" internet poker utilizing the services that Sciplay will provide.

Nationally, a Texas representative said last week he plans to introduce legislation that would authorize Internet online poker on a national basis.
