A political dispute in Minnesota between the governor and lawmakers has caused the operators of Canterbury Park to suspend their gaming operations in Shakopee.

Failure by the politicians to come up with a budget by the July 1 deadline caused the state to shut down its operations. This included the supervision of the Minnesota Racing Commission over gaming activities at Canterbury Park.

Involved were the track’s live racing, simulcasting and card casino operations.

Management said that without income from these activities it would be forced to layoff all of the 1,100 full and part-time employees.
