Billionaire Carl Icahn’s Tropicana Casino and Resort in Atlantic City is looking to terminate its employees’ pension plan, and this has got the casino unions all riled up. So much so that the union has been picketing the property on the Atlantic City Boardwalk.
For the casino, it’s a matter of eliminating a major expense while substituting something that would cost less.
For the union, it’s a matter of operating principle.
According to published reports, Local 54, Unite-HERE union has been asking groups that have booked events at the Tropicana to take their business elsewhere. It is the same tactic the union used successfully against Resorts Casino Hotel last summer.
