The Baltimore Sun newspaper has revealed that Caesars Entertainment Corp. (CZR) has donated $100,000 to a Democratic group led by Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley. The newspaper said Caesars last year donated $50,000 to the same group.
Meanwhile, the gaming company is hoping to win a state license to operate a casino in the City of Baltimore.
Gary Loveman, Caesars CEO, denied the donations had any connection to the company’s desire to open the Baltimore casino. And, a spokesman for the governor said the governor keeps association business separate from state decision-making.
However, it was noted an "independent board whose members are appointed by O’Malley and two top legislative leaders" will determine whether Caesars can build such a casino.
