Pennsylvania horse racing interests feared budget cuts would result in fewer dollars being allocated to support the Racing Horse Development Fund. That would have resulted in major reduction in racing purses.

A sigh of relief was heard last week when the state Senate approved a $27.6 billion budget that restored $70 million in Development Fund money.

“It’s the first real positive step in three or four months,” said a racing official.

Under the budget, the Fund would receive about $3 million less than previously.
