Nev. state unemployment rate down, but up for Las Vegas

The unemployment rate for the state of Nevada inched downward during the month of May but it went up for the Las Vegas community.

According to the Department of Employment, Nevada’s unemployment rate in May fell to 11.6 percent, while the rate in Las Vegas rose to 11.8 percent.

Employment in Las Vegas casinos was given as 165,200, about 4,500 better than last year in May.

Still, both Nevada’s and Las Vegas’ unemployment rates were higher than the national average of 8.2 percent.
