The gambling law in Pennsylvania designated two casino licenses for the city of Philadelphia. One went to Sugarland Casino, that has become a major success, and the other went to the operators of Foxwoods Casino Resort in Connecticut.
Unfortunately, Foxwoods failed to come up with the needed financing for a casino. The license was revoked.
Now, the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board has decided to put the vacated license up for bid.
So far, Philadelphia developer Bart Blatstein is the only one who has shown an interest in the license. He said he would like to locate a casino next to a former newspaper building.
