While Sheldon Adelson, chairman and CEO of Las Vegas Sands Corp. (LVS) has been getting national publicity for his contributions to Republican causes, Phil Ruffin, owner of Treasure Island Hotel/Casino on the Las Vegas Strip has been in the news in Kansas.
Ruffin, the owner of Wichita Greyhound Park and Camptown Greyhound Park, two defunct dog tracks in Kansas, has donated $144,000 to the new Kansas Wins PAC, a group supporting moderates facing conservative opponents seeking a Senate seat.
Ruffin, and other backers of legalized gambling, want legislators to re-write a 2007 law so slot machines would be allowed at his dog tracks and at The Woodlands in Kansas City, Kan.
According to political watchers, some conservatives are seeking to oust moderate incumbents who have been supportive of changing the gambling laws.
