The machines that permit customers to wager on pre-run races are growing in popularity. The operators of Ellis Park racetrack in Henderson, Ky., have announced they have begun offering casino-style Instant Racing.
Ron Geary, owner of the facility, said on Friday, in order to take advantage of the Labor Day weekend, the property began offering Instant Racing with 187 machines. He said the machines would be available from 10 a.m. to 2 a.m. seven days per week.
Instant Racing machines resemble slot machines and allow gamblers to place wagers on previously run but unidentified horse races.
The machines have been a huge success at Kentucky Downs in Franklin, which began operations last year.
