Without specifying an exact number, Boyd Gaming Corp. (BYD) has announced layoffs at its casinos in various parts of the country, including Las Vegas.
The company employs about 25,000 people at its 22 gaming properties in eight states. Those include the company’s two new acquisitions, Peninsula Gaming and IP Biloxi in Mississippi. According to the Wichita Business Journal, the layoffs did not extend to the newly-acquired Kansas Star Casino.
A Boyd spokesman was quoted as noting “revenue is unpredictable,” thus providing a reason for the layoffs. It was believed the company’s Atlantic City flagship, the Borgata, was hard hit in the fourth quarter because of the impact of Hurricane Sandy.
