Private operators have taken over the lottery operations in Illinois and Pennsylvania and New Jersey’s Gov. Chris Christie wants to join them.
Problem is, some private operators have made predictions that have not been met. That is what has happened in Illinois where a group that includes Gtech has been running the lottery. The group’s 2012 revenues fell about $100 million short of its Illinois projections.
“Privatization is the right way to go,” said Christie. “We’re now going to negotiate with that (lone) bidder and see if we can come to an agreement we think is in the best interest of the people of this state.”
