Linn County gambling property couple years away

Voters in Linn County, Iowa, had approved licensing a casino in Cedar Rapids but with the various steps necessary for licensing expected to take several months a gambling property could be a couple of years away.

That was what casino investor Steve Gray told supporters following the vote. He noted that the next step, applying to the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission, would take six to 12 months for approval.

In order to get Commission approval, said Gray, the supporters will have to offset opposition from the Riverside Casino, near Iowa City. The casino was largely responsible for the “Just Say No Casino” campaign, which failed to deter voters.
