N.H. House votes in favor of increasing gas tax

Apr 1, 2013 5:04 PM

True to its earlier announcement, the New Hampshire House has voted 206-158 in support of a plan to increase the state’s gasoline tax. The bill now goes to the Senate whose members have favored authorizing a casino to generate the necessary funds for education and road projects.

Supporters of the gas tax pointed out that the state has not raised its 18-cent tax in 22 years. The bill calls for increasing the tax over a period of three years.

It was expected that if the tax increase were approved it would raise about $817 million over 10 years.
