A federal indictment has accused some 34 people with being involved with an illegal sports bookmaking business registered in Central America.

The indictments were unsealed in Oklahoma City last month and accused those charged with operating Legends Sports from Costa Rica and Panama City. Those wagering, according to the indictments, were almost exclusively from the U.S.

According to the indictments, “Legends Sports solicited millions of illegal bets totaling over $1 billion on sports and sporting events from gambling in the U.S.” The company allegedly operated Internet websites and telephone gambling services from facilities located in Panama.
