Lobbyists keep Internet Cafes support in Ohio senate

Despite heavy support in the Ohio House to ban Internet Cafes, lobbyists for the activity that the state attorney general has called “illegal gambling” have been successful in keeping its support in the state senate.

At least, until now.

Senate President Keith Faber believes he now has the votes to outlaw the activity. He has introduced an emergency bill that places restrictions on new gambling outlets and requires current operators to file new information.

Meanwhile, Atty. Gen. Mike DeWine continues his efforts to ban the cafes. Just last week, he led a raid on six facilities in the Cleveland area. He continues to prod the senate to follow the House lead and ban the properties.
