An administrative judge in Florida says there is a major difference between horse racing and barrel racing and chastised the state Department of Business and Professional Regulation for failing to see the difference.
He ruled that wagering on barrel racing at a Panhandle horse track violated the state’s gaming laws.
Barrel racing was introduced at a track at Gretna that has pari-mutuel wagering and as an aside operates a poker room.
Despite the judge’s ruling, Gretna doesn’t plan to change anything right away. A spokeswoman said the operating company, Creek Entertainment Gretna, has just received a renewal to its license.
